Audience and Institution Practice Essay

1. Assess the importance of marketing in the media area you have studied. (film)

Marketing is one thing filmmakers don’t take into account when producing a film but it is the main factor in having a successful film. You will typically see producers in the film industry selling their films to agents and film distributors and they will be responsible for drawing up a marketing strategy for the film they've bought. Now if a film doesn’t get bought that usually means they will move on from the project. With no marketing, it is very difficult for your film to be noticed.

To start, a very common question would be how do you start a film marketing strategy? Well, there are many answers to this that include asking an expert, start putting together objectives and goals for your film, or figuring out how you’re going to get out there. Getting out there could mean placing ads, advertising on a website, or social media. The more platforms your film is on the more it’s going to get noticed. For example, on average these films “should spend at least 20-25% of their budget on marketing.” Big studios might even “spend up to 50% of the cost of the film for promotion and marketing”. This sounds like a lot but it is what attracts the viewers. All the publicity you can get makes a difference because it shows people how good your film is and that they should watch it.

Furthermore, a film needs to be marketed for potential viewers to even know it is coming out. If you had no prior information on a film how would that attract you to watch it? For example, the Show “Money Heist, also known as La Casa de Papel, is a Spanish series released in 2017”. It recently hit number 1 on Netflix, having everyone around the world going crazy over it. They worked on many unique ways to get their show out “Netflix did a very impressive job is at using non-traditional mediums to promote their show”. Another thing they were great at while filming season 3 was how well they knew their audience. According to the entertainment media Deadline, “the promotion had been the biggest in France and Italy” so they benefited from impressive wall-to-wall promotion, having the other countries wanting a piece of it as well. They continued to step out there comfort zone, making sure people all over the world would partake in watching the series. They even cobranded with “Domino’s Pizza, Spanish automobile manufacturer Seat, and Swiss chocolatier Lindt”. I was introduced to this television series because I had seen it all over Netflix and Instagram. Friends and family all over the internet were talking about how great it was so I took it upon myself to watch it as it caught my attention. Most of my movie streaming comes from Netflix, so usually if it is on the top 10 I am interested.

To conclude, film marketing uses the media to try to get people interested in a film enough to invest their money to go see it. Advertising platforms used in film marketing include trailers, posters, billboards, and contact with social media. Marking is essential in the film industry and no successful film is made without it.

Extract practice 24

The extract I decided to watch was called 24. I thought choosing this extract over the other one would be more interesting because I have never heard of it before. While watching the video for the first time my gut was telling me that a crime scene investigation was taking place. I personally believe the director wanted the audience to fell curious and anxious as what was to happen next. The director made sure to make certain shots dramatic to emphasize the situation. This would probably fall into the genre of mystery or drama. The reason I say mystery is because in the extract the guy is questioning the women and she is not cooperating so it makes him more frustrated. You can tell he wanted to solve something and he is not given the answers he wants. I also believe it could go into the drama category because its like a he said/ she said situation. Drama must be between them because you can tell there is tension in the room and they don’t like each other. I believe the message the director could be giving us is that there is always a good and bad guy. In this situation it is hard to say which is which because they both seem to have aggression towards each other and hiding things.
The scene first starts off in a dark room. It is pretty obvious that the setting is taking place in an interrogation room. The director chooses to make it low key lighting/dark lighting to dramatize the scene. Usually bright light is connected towards happiness and calmness but darker lighting is more serious. This already sets the tone for the rest of the scene. This goes towards my view that the director is trying to real us into the video because we are interested in what is going to happen next. The first camera angle that is shown is an over the shoulder shot. This shot shows the back of the shoulder and the head of the person is used to frame the image the camera is aiming at. Usually this shot is taken place when two people are having a discussion and that’s exactly what is going on in the scene. It is common for this to come after the establishing shot so the audience knows where the scene is taking place. After that the camera zooms into the women’s face. You can infer she is nervous by the look on her face. The reason the director might have included this is to provide a closer look into what the charter is thinking and how they are reacting. The scene also starts of with lots of non-diegetic sounds. This includes the noise of the door being closed or the paper being put on top of the table. Dialogue is taking place for a while so it leaves the audience confused and wondering what is happening. By adding these non-diegetic sounds, it shows panic and confusion.
The following scene is quick view of a man and women looking at two TV’s. In the background you can hear the noise of computers and technology so I would guess they are in a control room. They seem to be watching what is going on in the interrogation room so by this I can infer there is a whole investigation happening. By looking at the characters facial expressions you can tell they are worried. The jump cut that was included in this scene was to show the back and forth and how fast everything is happening.
Moving back to the investigation room the camera starts to zoom into objects to show the audience what is in the room and to give us more of an idea of where they are. This included zooming into the security camera and the clock on the wall. By getting a closer look on the clock on the wall you can make a guess that the director is trying to show the audience that they don’t have time to waste. Finally, there is some dialogue included. The women begins by saying that she needs to be on a plane right now which connects with the emphasize of the clock. By listening to the dialogue, the characters are calm yet there is tension between them. The camera tends to move from side to side which is also called a pan to portray that the guy is anxious that’s why he wont stop moving. Lots of people tend to move from side to side when they are nervous. Lots of close up shots are included on the women so we can see her facial expressions. She manages to keep a serious, calm face throughout. Another zoom is included when the man becomes frustrated and flips over the table. He gets into the women’s face and starts yelling. By this point tensions are rising and you can tell he is not happy. The importance of the eye-line match in this scene is to show the significance of the conversation.
The camera is quickly moved back to the two people behind all this in the control room. They are clearly worried with what is going on. The camera is showing both of them at once so this would be a two shot.
Switching back to the interrogation room it is an extreme close up of the man and women continuing their conversation. The woman is talking calming while having a smirk on her face. This obviously frustrates the man because he runs up to her and starts choking her.
A split screen is quickly shown, showing the guy choking the women while the control people are rushing into the room. This is intensifying the situation because you can see both sides at once. Another thing that was easy to spot was the fact that the camera was really shaky which means it was a handheld shot.
The last scene is everyone running into the room to stop the choking. These continuous jump cuts help portray that the director wanted everything moving fast and leaving the audience curious. The scene finishes with the man leaving the room while the women is still in the chair while everyone is with her.
After all, the details helped prove that I was right on the director’s visions. The director wanted to keep the audience engaged throughout by slowly intensifying the scenes. The same lighting and characters were shown throughout. The director did a good job of leaving the audience curious as to what would end up happening.

CCR video for movie

The process for completing the CCR for our final movie was difficult. Because of the whole corona virus pandemic my group member and I weren't able to continue filming. This resulted in us only having half of our movie complete. Its a shame because we only got to film the introduction and basically didn't get to finish a majority of our film. We already had everything planned out because we did story boards before this. Those storyboards were keeping us on Track and were very helpful when we needed to film. If it weren't for the virus right now our movie would be complete. Not only are we effected, people all over the whole are too. Everything is shut done included the beach, stores, and restaurants. There is a Order to stay in your homes. Because of this pandemic it is causing to one to see each other. And if people were to see each other you have to be 6 feet distance at all times. As a result of it, My group couldn't finish filming. This made it harder to answer the CCR questions. Although these questions are independent so we have to do them individually we don't have a finished product to talk about. When answering these questions I tried my best to provide as much detail and thought into every answer. As difficult as this was to finish I knew this is what needed to be done for Cambridge. We were just informed the other day that AICE testing is cancelled but no one was sure about how the testing was going to work. I haven't received any information on it so the best option is to do all my work and turn it in. Hopefully Cambridge sees all the hard work students have been putting into their work all year and give us credit for these classes. Shown above is my final CCR video explaining the process of our movie.

Final Movie

Attached below is my groups Final movie. We were not able to fully complete it. Because of this global pandemic my group member and I weren't allowed to see each other. I wish we were given more time before school ended to finish this film. We were supposed to have another whole month to finish filming if we needed but they shut down all schools. They also ordered everyone to stay inside and that there needs to be social distancing. This has resulted in our video not meeting the time requirements. Some things we were able to include were background music and titles. The clips that we were able to film turned out really well. We followed our storyboard throughout. This helped the filming process speed up. I would say about 90% of it is following our story board. As of right now this video is 1:13 seconds. Orginally it was supposed to be about 1:50. The video portrays the introduction to what would have happened later on in the film. My group memeber and I directed all of it and worked on everything behind the screen. We made a good team together. The main character is one of our close friends that agreed to star in our film.

Nike Commercial CCR

Creative Critical Reflection
1.     How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

-       Our product for the commercial was Nike. Our product used conventions because we wore all Nike clothing. Usually Nike revolves its commercials around sports. For this reason, we decided to film on the track. In our video we portrayed how runners look fierce and strong in Nike gear. The type of social group our commercial would represent is Track runners. Our video is directed to them. Nike encourages people to strive for greatness and that’s what we tried to represent in our video.

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
-       Our product engages with audiences because Nike is a very popular brand. An example of were a Nike commercial would air is at a sporting event. If you are at that type of event its because you are interested in sports and the Nike commercial will catch your attention. Because you are already interested it will persuade you to buy their product. They will be more inclined to buy the product that is being advertised. A lot of people can relate to Nike commercials because they are active or play sports. These commercials grab the audience’s attention because Nike sends powerful meanings through their videos.

3.     How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

-       My production skills developed a lot throughout the project. Before starting this project, I didn’t know how to use a camera or tripod. I learned all about the correct buttons you had to use on the camera and what there uses were. The tripod is also a very cool tool I just learned about. It holds the camera up, so the shots won’t be a hand held shot. I though the tripod was very useful, and I was glad we were able to use it to film. I also learned out to Put the camera on the tripod and how to use it like that. Before the project I also knew nothing about the school software that we were supposed to use. As time went on, I got better with the editing and using the software.  I would personally say my production skills developed tremendously.

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

- In this project we used many different types pf technologies. This would include the camera, SD card and tripod. The camera was mandatory because that’s what we needed in order to film. The SD card held all our footage that we filmed. The tripod was used for the camera to rest on so we could get clear easy shots. We also included the Sd card reader because that’s what we needed to get the footage onto the computer. We came to a slight issue when editing which resulted in us not being able to use the computers. Because of this we had to use the USB drive. This was a safe and easy way to make sure we didn’t lose any shots that we took. A big technology we used was the actual editing software. This helped us create and edit our whole video.

Nike Commercial

Attached above is my Nike commercial. I worked on this assignment with two other people. I personally really enjoyed working on this project. My group and I decided to do Nike because we are all into sports. I had the idea of going on the track to film because I run track at school. I remember the only issue we had was dealing with the heat. We needed to make sure we took enough shots so we stayed outside for a while. Adding in different camera angles was super beneficial. Another thing I learned during this process was how to work the camera and tripod. We took notes in class so when we looked back at them it wasn't to difficult working the camera. We had a little bit of a hard time dealing with the tripod. It was incorporated in some clips but for the majority of the commercial we took hand held shots. Dani was in charge of the placement of the shots because she wanted to be behind the camera. However Jorge and myself were willing to run and perform. We incorporated many Nike items to show off the brands. These would include a Nike backpack, t-shirt, shorts and shoes. I believe we really did a good job on our commercial. We put a lot of time into filming as well as editing. To edit this video we used pinnacle studios. We also had to download all of out clips on to the computer before doing so.

Music video CCR

Music Video

The task of this assignment was to create. This video was mostly taken place at the beach. When we weren't at the beach we were either in the car or getting food. This all had something to do with the music video. We included as many of our friends into the film to make it as friendly and fun as possible. On top of having my group member and I, we also had two other friends join us. It was a beautiful day out when we went filming so it was great. We followed our story board throughout the whole music video. I also enjoyed working on this assignment because I had a good time. Not only was I with the my friends but we were filming and laughing. We tried to make our music video very bright and joyous. Our song that we chose was "sugar" by Robin Schulz ft. Francesco Yates. This song brings back good memories so we decided it would be perfect. The genre this fell into was pop. Before picking this song we looked at many other pop songs. We also had to make to it was school appropriate because it was going to Cambridge. It also took us a while choosing the song because we listened to almost an entire playlist to find the perfect one. Something we used for inspiration was the original music video. We thought the original didn't really match the song that well so we decided to change it up in our own ways. We still kept some ideas from the original but a lot of it was switched.

Re-Edit

Currently we are still dealing with the corona virus. They have shut down all schools and are resulting to online learning. Because the week coming up is spring break online school will start the following week. This has caused major setback with students because online isn't the same as being in class. Luckily Aice Media is mostly based online. This is very good for me because I am able to do all my work from my laptop at home. Earlier on we were worried that saving our information to the school computer wasn't a good idea so we saved it to our computers instead. We are also very fortunate to have our own computers so we didn't need the schools. In case though the school was handing out computers for kids that needed them. This is very helpful to us now because currently we are not having many issues. The only thing in our way is continuation of filming. We wanted to film a bit more in order for our film to be great but we haven't gotten the chance to. Yet while having nothing to do at home it has given us lots of time to edit. We have continued to use the editing software imovie. My group member and I have definitely gotten the hang of it so it has become very easy to use. I am interested in all the different tools and effects it has to offer. There is so many ways we were able to make our video more interesting. This time at home has really helped us develop new ideas. We are so close to finishing now we just need to do final touches. This will include making sure the lighting is good and we added lots of different camera angles. We have put a lot of work into this project so we are expecting a good turnout.

Filming Attempt

As of today we are facing a huge global issue which is the Corona Virus. These issues are even affecting the global movie production a tremendous amount. This has also resulted in social distancing between people. For a while my group mate and I will not be able to get together. Because of this my group hasn't had the opportunity to continue filming. At this rate we are hoping this situation will get better so we can finish filming. My group member and I both have strict parents so we haven't been allowed out. This has caused us to yet finish shooting for our video. Lots of school related things are being cancelled but as we know this class is based online so all the work is still due the same dates. This will force us to have to see each other so we can get it done. Because of the cancellation of school also it has been more difficult. Before we could always discuss ideas in class with each other. Lucky we are both great at communicating and working with each other so we are going to make it work. We have resulted to lots of face timing calls with each other to communicate our thoughts. We have also been going back and forth taking our part in editing the video. Editing hasn't changed because we have had all the information we need from our laptops at home. This was one thing we were glad about and how we didn't save our video on the schools desktop. This postponement will be helpful for us to focus on what we could add into our video in order for it to be the best it can be. Our final grade means a lot to both of us so as soon as we can we will get all of our work done.

Editing

My group member and I have been continuing to work on editing our film. We tend to film and the edit as soon as we can. We have been repeating this process until we believe we are done with our film. We are going to insure our video portrays the hard work we put into it. Cambridge is going to grade us on how well it is and then determines our grade. Making sure our video is the best it can be is very important. While editing we like to just use the app imovie. In our eyes this is the best editing app and also the easiest. The first thing we did while editing was inserting the clips. After the clips are inserting we cut some of them depending on how long they were. Once the clips were put together we add in all the different titles. We had to make sure the titles were poping up throughout the film. This was a huge requirement that needed to be included in our video. Once that was finished we went over the clips to make sure we included a variety of shots. When we saw that we didn't have some of the shots we decided to re-film. We kept the same concept of the shot just from a different point of view. This made the film look more professional with all the different angles. After we finished re-shooting we added those shots back into imovie. I cleaned up the video a little with moving some things around. I also realized we were over time. that resulted in us having to go back and make some clips shorter.

Re-shoot

To better our video we had to re shoot. This took place on the weekend that had just passed. Since we already did the peer-review we already knew exactly what we needed to re-shot. Before going through the peer-review we thought nothing was wrong with out video. We took into consideration the advice that was given to us. My group member and I added extra scenes that we thought were missing. A big thing we forgot to add in was a shot-reverse-shot. This is when the shot shows one person, then switches what they are looking at/talking to, then switches back to the person. We believed this was important to have in our video for Cambridge. We created this shot when the main girl entered the car. It shows her friend greeting her, then the main girl saying hi back, and then the other girls saying to get in the car with them. This portrayed one example of a shot-reverse-shot. Something else we thought was crucial to add in was a tilt. A tilt is when you show surroundings from  the ground moving upwards. In our original video we did not include this. As this was slightly challenging it had us debating whether to add it in out video. Dani had the great idea to add this clip as we just walk into the restaurant so you cane see the dinner table. Then I thought we could have added the tilt at the end. After we discussed this we came to conclusion to add it at the diner. One other shot we thought we were missing was a pan. Technically a pan is the same as a tilt it just goes up and down instead.

Filming Journey

The process thought this video has been eventful. My group member and I faced difficulties in the beginning. This included bad weather and our extra actors not showing up. This slowed down our filming process and caused us to start later than expected. We keep our movie to be almost 95% true. Once we got the hang of filming the video, everything went as planned. My group member and I decided to do all the work behind the camera. One of our close friends offered to help us and star as the main girl. This was very helpful for our film. It gave me the opportunity to focus on all the small details.
On the other hand, editing went by smoothly. This process only took a couple hours. Putting together shots worked very well. The shots were very elongated so we had to cut them a lot. The editing app we used was imovie. This platform is very easy and simple to work with. This was our go to option because we didn't rent out a camera. We used our phones to film because we believed it would be easier and the quality was good. If we used a camera we would have used the editing platform which is pinnacle studios. We will still need to re-shoot and re-edit.

Peer Review

The group I had to review was group 10. This consisted of three girls. One questioned my group member and I had to answer was “What was one thing you really liked about the film?”. I really enjoyed the effort the characters put in. You could tell they were showing a lot of emotion. This was something that helped there film a lot. It made the film look realistic. I really applaud them on how much thought they put into the film. It was unique and a good pitch. Another question we had to answer was “What was one suggestion you would make to the film?”. I suggested that they should have added some non- digetic sounds. It would have made the film more dramatic. This could have included add the sounds to the high heels. Another example would have been if they added the noise of the keys dangling. This would have added more suspense to the movie. One other suggestion I would suggest was adding titles. The group failed to do this. If all the titles were added they would have had a better movie. These titles should have been displayed throughout the whole entire film.

Filming

Finally, my group member and I were ready to film. We were able to make time and put our other activities aside. After school on Thursday afternoon we went back to danis house. We were planning on filming at mine but last minute we couldn’t. Like we expected followed at least 90% of our script. At my house there is to many people that make noise so we figured danis house would be easier. Her house was quiet and the perfect place to film. Our friend Lucy contributed a lot towards our video. She offered to be the main girl in the film. This helped us a lot because we were able to focused on different things than acting. Dani focused most of her time on directing. While I spent my time choosing the correct costumes and music. Filming took us a good amount of time but not too long. We weren’t able to finish so we still have some ways to go. Next time we film we are planning to not stay at danis house. The last scenes take place in the car and at the restaurant. We will need to gather the rest of our friends for the rest of the film. Putting the film together wasn’t to difficult. The app my group member and I used to edit was iMovie. This app is very easy and simple to use.

Filming-Attempt to Film

Over the weekend that just passed, the filming process began. Our first decision was that we wouldn't be checking out a camera from our media studies classroom. We both came up with the solution of using our iphones because it is easier to manipulate with. We also believe our iphones have better quality than the cameras that are handed out at school. In result of using our iphones to film we will be using the software Imovie to film. If this doesn't work an alternative would be using pinnacle studios as our editing platform. I am hoping first choice works because using pinnacle studios will be more difficult for my partner and I. Over the weekend my group mate came over to my hose to film. We choose to film at my house because the first scene takes place in a bedroom. Although this process didn't turn out as well as we wanted. In the beginning, My group mate and i thought this plan would follow through. However we faced a few obstacles. The first one we dealt with was the lightening and how it didn't look very good because it was at night. Even though the light was on the film appeared not as we wanted and somewhat fuzzy. In order to fix this we are planning on filming during the day. Another problem we faced was that there was background noise. My parents and sister were home cooking dinner and making noise so it was hard for the video to be silent. To fix this next time we will make sure no one is home so there is no background noises. We figured at this point to just restart with the filming because it wasn't starting off right. The process will begin next weekend or after school during the week.

Filming Failure

This past weekend my group member and I weren't able to film. We faced some difficulties that stooped us. The main reason for this was because of the rain. Since we live in Florida, rain is always constant and unpredictable.  We were planning to filming scenes 1-2 which are inside so technically that shouldn't stop us from filming. But the problem was the transportation. We needed to make sure everyone would arrive to the destination safely. While raining the roads tend to get slippery and people cant see the road as well. This sometimes causes people to drive unsafely which could put people in harm. We didn't want to risk anything so we choose to not film that day.
With this delay of filming it will result in us having to choose another day. I am hoping everything goes well. We will be starting off with scenes 1-2 as soon as we can. My group member and I are very busy people so finding a time good for both of us is going to be hard. Filming should only take us about 1 night. It will go by pretty fast because we already know exactly what we need to do. The shooting and sound script helped a lot for planning in advance. This saved us a lot of time in the future. As soon as we finish filming we will begin editing immediately. The editing is what is going to take us the longest to do.

Storyboard Template

Displayed above is our storyboard template. This portrays what is going to happen every scene. It is split up into 6 seconds for every little box on the paper. There are also 6 boxes per paper. There is a small picture and description for what happens exactly in each scene.  Storyboarding is very helpful because it forces us to know what is happening each second in the film. We are planning on following this template as much as we can. Nothing should effect our filming too much so we are counting on this. This also helps us a lot with hitting the right time for the video. Now that we have all our information we will need to start filming soon.

Title Desgin

Attached above is our Title design google slide. Included is all the different fonts and titles that will be in the film. We will be using the font “Baskerville Old Face”. The reason for this is because it gives off a mysterious vibe. This will set the tone for the film and make it more interesting. My group member and I would like to keep the font consistent because we don’t want it to look messy. An example of helping the title or front stick out would be using a black screen and white text. This grabs the attention of the watchers. The main title will be “Girl Night Out”. This was selected because it is not giving away the film but it gives the audience a little clue of what the movie is about.

Planning- Location, Participants, Health and safety, and schedule

Attached above is our planning google slide. Incorporated is exact details that we need for our film. For example, we wrote about the location and even included pictures. While filming we are involving many of our friends as participants. They will be a huge help because we need more than just my group member and I. Having all this information will help us be prepared before filming. This will save us lots of time. We are planning to film throughout the period of two weeks. This gives enough time to make changes and make sure everything is perfect. By the end of march filming should be done and editing will begin.

Planning- Sound Script

Attached above is our sound script. Included are multiple slides explaining and planning the sound in our scenes. There are diegetic and non-diegetic sounds listed, as well as every other music or sound that we intend to include. We are focusing on strictly following this plan. We hope to keep it consistent with this, aiming for 90% similarity. The sound is broken up into each scene, as each scene has different sounds. We created this document so assist us with filming, as we have already created our shooting script. We decided to divide up our shooting script into sound and planning, instead of creating it all together. Each sound that we intend to use is listed, including sounds like footsteps, or a car door closing, or the sound of a car moving. Since we do not know exactly what music we are including yet, it is hard to state what music we intend to use so this is just a basic idea of what we will use. All of the rest of our sounds are exactly what will be happening in the movie.

Planning- Shooting script

This is a shooting script about what is shown in each scene. Each scene is portrayed on a different slide. Included in the document are the different camera angles, lighting and setting. We went into as much detail as possible. The purpose of this google slide is to explain exactly what is going to happen during every scene. Instead of putting our shooting and sound scripts together, we decided to divide them up. We are planning on following this script as throughly as we can. There will most likely be a 90% similarity between the script and the film. Things might change as to when the diner will be open and if everyone is able to get together to film. Following this script will help us be prepared to film.

Title Research: Lost Highway

How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
There are 9 titles displayed during the opening sequences to the film.
What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
The images that are prioritized during the opening sequence are images of a
single road in the dark. This is shown clearly in relation to the title, "Lost Highway", as it
is the only highway shown in the picture.
What connotations do the images carry?
These images all carry a mysterious connotation, because the audience doesn't know
what this road symbolizes, or what is going to happen.
How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
The genre is reinforced through the simplicity and question depicted within these images.
All the director shows is this single highway from the beginning, leading the audience to be
curious about what this highway is all about.
How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?

Mystery Film Analyzing -Murder Mystery

In order to create our film, we need to research actual films that have been created within this genre. To start off with, we watched the movie, "Murder Mystery" by Kyle Newacheck starring Adam Sandler, Jenifer Aniston and Luke Evans. The movie begins with an ariel shot of the city to establish the setting for the movie. This could be considered the establishing shot, as most mystery movies include. Following this, they incorporate a tilt shot, which leads down to two characters talking. Once they have established the characters and setting involved in the film, they use a handheld shot of the two characters talking. This technique is placed here to make the audience feel as if they are involved within the movie as well. There are no extravagant examples of make-up, props or costumes yet. Since the characters are living in a city, they are wearing normal clothes and makeup. When researching this genre previously, it stated that this would occur, as mystery is more natural; not needing to incorporate these aspects a lot. As for sound, the beginning of this movie is using dietetic sound. You can hear the wind blowing, the people talking, cars honking and people talking in the background.
Now, we have reached the middle of the movie. So far, they have established all the characters, the setting and the problem. The problem is occurring when all of the characters are on a boat and different characters keep getting killed, but nobody knows who is committing his crime. In the middle of the movie, (and beginning) the lighting throughout has been normal, either sunlight, or common room lighting. As for camera movements, we are beginning to notice a lot more instances of zooming in and out. This is used when a character says something important, most likely pertaining to the crime. Furthermore, there are many instances of cutaway shots. These are used throughout conversations, especially important ones where both sides of the conversation have important things to say. There are many two-shots, as the two main characters are a couple exploring together. As we have now reached the middle of the movie, more characters are being introduced that are wearing different costumes from the rest of the cast.
Now that we have reached the end of the movie, the character that committed the crime has been revealed, and the mystery is solved. Throughout the film, the director incorporates hidden clues to make the audience guess who was the culprit. The way that he accomplishes this is through certain camera angles, shots and movements listed above. Specifically in there end, there are many examples of tracking shots. Since the characters are involved in a car chase, the camera is following the cars on a track so that the camera stays steady, and that the audience can feel as if they're involved in it too. As stated before, there are many zoom shots. Since the characters are in a crisis, they want to show the audience each of their emotions up close, by using the zooming technique. The new aspect that is incorporated into the end of the film is that they are using makeup to represent blood from the mystery. Once the movie is over, they run the credits at the end with a song playing in the background (non-dietetic sound). Overall, we realized that there are many specific aspects that are used in this genre in order to be successful

Mystery Film Analyzing- Us

This movie falls into the mystery/thriller category. The beginning of the movie starts of with a flashback to 1986. This shows a family at a festival with rides. The setting takes place at this amusement park. It also night time so the lighting is dark. The little girl wonders away from her parents and she gets lost. She walks around exploring but thats when it starts to get creepy. She goes into this hall of mirrors and sees a replica of herself. After this small beginning it goes back to present day. This little girl is grown up now with a husband and kids.
Haunted by a traumatic experience from the past, Adelaide grows increasingly concerned that something bad is going to happen. Everyone is dressed in normal clothing. This includes shots and t shirts. I noticed many tracking shots and medium shots. there was also some eye level shots. This family decides to take a trip to the same beach where the assessment park is.Her worst fears soon become a reality when four masked strangers descend upon the house, forcing the Wilson into a fight for survival. The masked strangers look identical to the family. the bad family wont stop until they get what they want. The actors did an amazing job in my opinion.
They genuinely looked scared which really made it seem like they weren't acting. The sound was very precise and detailed. P.O.V shots were included because it helped the watchers see what the actors were doing. A suspenseful story and marvelous cast I would say. I really think there was so much talent between the actors because you could really see the pain in there eyes. I enjoyed that there was lots of suspense during the movie. The close up shots made all the details clear. The costumes also consisted of the Bad family wearing red jumpsuits. While the Regular family was dressed in normal clothing. I believe the movie was directed very well and the actors were amazing.
