Editing music video

Editing the music video didn't take that much time. While filming we had complications with the camera. We forgot to charge it the night before. So when we opened it up it said it had only 8 minutes of battery. Our first thought was to borrow our friends because she had a camera too that she hadn't used.We were planning on just going switch the SD cards. Our friend only lived about 2 minutes away so it sounded like a good idea. Hers ended up being dead also so we ended up using danis phone. Editing on the phone was easy. We kept all the footage on one persons phone.
We also made sure to take lots of shots so when we edited we would have options. The app we used to edit was Imovie. This app is very simple and easy to work with. First, I put all the clips together. After that I moved around the clips to see which ones looked better next to each other. We edited each clip to the exact timing we wanted. After, we cut the background noise of each video. Once we had all the clips organized we added the song behind it.We added filters. We also changed the positions of some clips.
We made sure to watch it several times before we have to turn it in. The due date for this music video is Friday December 3rd. This means we still have 2 days to edit if we need to. Im hoping we get a good grade on this because we put a lot of effort into this. Im glad we were able to finish editing about a week earlier then the due date. We also had to add transitions throughout the clips. There was some last minute thoughts that went through my head right before we went to film. I thought it would have been a good and unique idea to use the song thrift shop and film at a thrift store. That would have made a good, fun music video. This idea fell threw though so we continued with the idea of going to the beach. In the end we made a great music video.

Filming continued

November 27 was the day we filmed. In my opinion it went very well. We got a lot of work done in a short amount of time.  We ended up going to the beach for a couple hours and filming.  First we had my friend pick me and my group member Dani up. After that we went to Dunkin’ Donuts and got the donuts. After that we took shots of us in the car zooming in to the music. Following we took shots of us dancing in the car.  We faced a malfunction where we forgot to charge the camera so there was only 20 minutes of battery on it. This resulted in us filming on Danni’s phone.
We decided that maybe we could borrow another friends camera and put our SD card in it. But there’s ended up being dead too because they forgot to also charge it. This resulted in us just filming on the phone.  To edit we will just use iMovie because it will be easier for us. We took at least 26 clips. Each clip is about 3 to 5 seconds long.  I have not checked all the clips but I’m hoping when we put all of it together it will look good.  Will make sure to catch as many clips as we could because it will be easier to edit with.  Well we also did is have some of the girls lip sing to the song so that will be harder for us edit because we will need to find the exact words that match their lips moving.  We also had some of our friends including the video which really helped a lot.
I’m glad we were able to get our filming to entering break. This is really helpful for us because we have the final music video due on Friday.  The weather ended up being perfect. It was sunny and a little cloudy but not too hot.  I had a fun time filming. It was nice to work with my teammates.  Everyone was enjoying it. I’m excited to see how the final video turn out. I will start editing soon.  I hope the our music video turns out as well as our commercial did.  We’ve worked pretty hard in it so I believe we deserve a good grade.  The final music video end up being around one minute and 15 seconds long

Filming

This past weekend we did not end up filming. We were planning on getting some filming in but my group and I decided we had no time. I had family in town and also plenty of homework. Dani also had her grandparents over because of the holidays. In a result of this we just checked out a camera today. We will be filming on Wednesday which is during Thanksgiving break. Thanksgiving break will give us plenty of free time to film. Hopefully we are able to get a lot done in this amount of time. We cannot film on Thursday and Friday because it is Thanksgiving and black Friday. I believe our best option is to wake up early so we can get a lot of filming done.
We also need to check the weather because we are filming outside on the beach. For right now the weather forecast says it should be nice out.  In the wake of thinking about numerous areas and thoughts for the video, we at last chose to film on the sea shore and in the car, singing. We picked this since we feel as though we could expand more on our thoughts in the event that we film here. To begin our business, we will do a closeup of the melody on the radio in the vehicle. The start of the tune is only music without any verses, and this is the point at which we will show the landscape in the vehicle with the melody playing. We will show the entirety of the on-screen characters in the video, as we will acquire our companions as well. Next, we will show the two individuals in the front of the vehicle moving in the vehicle. We will likewise show the individuals in the back of the vehicle moving also. Following this, we will show one of us singing the melody in a nearby.
We will at that point show the area of where we are recording, the sea shore. We will drive out and about by the sea shore, and film through the window. When we show that we are at the beach, we will at that point give us moving around to the tune in the sand, while singing the verses. After this, we will reduce to the nearby of one of us singing the verses to the tune once more. We rehash this once again later in the video. Since the melody is called sugar, we are anticipating getting doughnuts from Dunkin' doughnuts. We are relating this film to the title of the tune, particularly when it says the word sugar. We will do a closeup of the doughnuts in the vehicle to show them. We will at that point show we all moving in the vehicle while eating the doughnuts. included in the video will also be activities/sports.

Storyboarding

Today, 11/21/19, we started to storyboard for our music video. After considering many locations and ideas for the video, we finally decided to film on the beach and in the car with all of us dancing, singing and being happy. We chose this idea because we feel as if we could elaborate more on our ideas if we film here. To start off our commercial, we will do a close up of the song on the radio in the car. The beginning of the song is just music with no lyrics, and this is when we will show the scenery in the car with the song playing. We will show all of the actors in the video, as we will be bringing in our friends too. Next, we will show the two people in the front of the car dancing in the car. We will also show the people in the back of the car dancing as well. Following this, we will show one of us singing the song in a close up. Throughout the whole video, we will keep cutting back into the same person singing the words of the song. We will then show the location of where we are filming, the beach. We will drive on the road next to the beach, and film through the window and this will be a pan shot. Once we show that we are at the beach, we will then show us jumping and dancing around to the song in the sand, while singing the lyrics. After this, we will cut back to the close up of one of us singing the lyrics to the song again. We repeat this one more time later in the video. Since the song is called sugar, we are planning on incorporating donuts from Dunkin’ donuts. We are relating this film to the title of the song, especially when it explicitly says the word sugar in the song. We will do a close up of the donuts in the car to show them. We will then show all of us dancing in the car while eating the donuts, showing the box too. We will also show us dancing through the sunroof of the car. For the last time, we will then cut back into the close up of one of us singing the song again. Once we have done this, we will go back to the beach and play volleyball. We will take a wide shot of two of us passing the volleyball back and forth over the net. To conclude the video, we are going to wait until sunset and take a pan of the beach, specifically the waves and the sky. The very last scene of the video will be all of us sitting on the towel at sunset, all singing together. Overall, we intended to create a happy and intriguing music video that will be appealing to the audience. The song is overall a very happy song and we will match the tone in the video. We are planning on filming on 11/27 and if that doesn’t work, we will film on 11/30.

Planning

Today, 11/19, we are planning out our music video. When planning out our music video, we need to consider many things, such as: Location, Health and Safety, Props, Costumes and the schedule that we need to stay consistent with.
1.  Location- For our music video, we will be filming at the beach. Since the song is a happy pop song, we figured that it would be appropriate to film here. The beach is a good place to film because we don’t need to worry about approval or denial. We will also be filming in a car, next to the beach.  However, if this location does not work out, our backup location would be at a park, or at a parking lot in the car. All of these locations would be appropriate to the song, but hopefully we will be able to film at the beach.
2.  Health and Safety- As we are planning to film at the beach, there is not many precautions we can take to be safe. We are not planning to go in the ocean, so we will not need to worry about having a lifeguard for safety precautions. However, when we are in the car, we will need to be wearing seatbelts.
3. Costumes- From all of the research that we did and the other music videos of pop songs, we have seen that most of the clothing that is worn is all casual clothing. It would not make sense to dress up in fancy costumes, at the beach. We are planning to wear casual clothing, like t-shirts and shorts.
4.  Props- When we are at the beach, we will be using certain props like footballs, or volleyballs and more. We will be using these props to be protraying kids having a good time and enjoying life, which is what the song is expressing as well. We will also be using a car, to show us listening to music and having fun in the car.
5. Schedule- The following schedule lists all of our dates that we are planning to film and complete other blogs:
11/19 Plan our music video (location, health and safety, costumes and props.)
11/21 Location List, continue on schedule and storyboard.
11/25 Filming blog, explaining when and how we are filming, and how it went.
12/2 Another filming blog.
12/6 Music video is completed and due

Music video research

Ending our commercial we are still not in the best place. We are having some trouble picking out groups because we have more than 4 people. We decided that my group will be Dani and I. Coming off our commercial I believe we learned a lot. Learning how to edit and use the camera will really help up for the music video. We didn’t get the best training though because of the computer issues we faced. We also struggled with working on pinnacle studios. Hopefully with the help of my team never and others we will be able to make a great video.
After listening to multiple songs, we decided on Sugar (feat. Francesco Yates) by Robin Schultz. The genre for this song is pop. We debated between other genres like country or rap, but after listening to this song, we decided that pop would be a good idea for a music video. We decided not to do rap because it would be to fast, and country would be too slow. We based this decision off of our idea, to film us participating in different activities on the beach. We figured this song would be appropriate and would give the music video a solid base to build off of. In the actual music video for this song, it shows a man enjoying the song in his car. We will add shots of us listening to this song on the beach and in the car on the road for the beach.
After watching multiple music videos from this genre, we determined that the music video must be outside. The settings mostly all took place in outside venues or cars. The overall conventions varied, depending on certain factors like gender, age, setting and more. For the most part, the actors were wearing casual clothing, appropriate to the setting. As we are filming our video on the beach, we will be wearing casual clothes which includes tank tops and shorts. Most of the videos did not have artificial lighting, as they were already outside in the natural light. We also won’t need artificial lighting because we will be in the natural sunlight at the beach. In other videos, actors were only wearing makeup when not outside or at the beach. Seeing this, we won’t be wearing a lot of makeup because we are supposed to be natural and at the beach. Most music videos entailed acting like singing along, dancing, having fun and more. For our acting, we will sing along to the song, or doing an activity with our friends. Along with all of the mis-en-scene,  there were a variety of camera angles and shots as well. We saw a lot of close-ups and wide shots, when they wanted to show a subject in a setting. We are doing this as well, so we will use many wide shots, medium- close ups, close-ups and pan shots.

Final editing

Throughout our project we had to deal with a lot. Finally we just finished with our commercial. We faced many ups and downs while filming. This included not knowing exactly how to work the cameras and the computers not working. We were taught all about how to use the cameras but when it came time to film we forgot exactly how to use all the correct buttons. Luckily we all took really good notes so it was easy to look back at them. The situation with the computers were extremely annoying but they were taking forever to load. If the computers were working correctly we could have finished the commercial sooner. One thing we didn't think about was using a computer or phone to edit from home which would have saved us time. I believe if we used out phones to edit the process would have gone faster.
I enjoyed filming because I learned a lot from it. One of the things I learned as that you have to take many shots because you want the most perfect one you an get. It was a little tiring repeating the same acting for the commercial because it was hot outside. Our Nike commercial consisted of Jorge and I running on the track. We tried to take as much shots as we had time for. Once we finished filming we went back inside and viewed all the different shots we took. This took us a while because we had to choose out which ones out of several were the best. The good thing is that we filmed many different shots so it was a good variety to choose from. After we had all of our clips together we had to edit them to make sure we were under 30 seconds. Editing these clips also consisted of cancelling the noise behind them because there was talking in the background.
Once we put together our video it was looking goo but we had to add a song behind it. This took us a while because we needed a good instrumental song that would go with out video. We looked at past Nike commercials to get some influence. After some time we decided on using the instrumental version of the song "hot" by Young thug. This song is very famous so it will definitely catch the attention of the watchers. Our commercial hit about 22 seconds so it was a good time. Our video really brings out what Nike is all about. It portrays hard-work by showing us running against each other. It also shows teamwork by giving each other a handshake after we are done racing. I believe we tried our hardest and came out with a great Nike commercial.

The stuggle of Editing

Our group was supposed to start filming on October 29th. We couldn't because the cameras weren't working. We faced many malfunctions. Pinnacle studios was not installed on the computers and it wouldn't load. Also the computers would take so long to load. It is difficult to write a blog on our editing because we couldn't get it done today. While filming we took many shots. I was ready to edit all the shots today. We could have gotten a lot done today. But instead of editing we aren't working on anything because of the computers.
I strongly believe the school needs to get batter technology. Without newer and nicer computers we wont be able to get any of the work done for this class. This class is very important to me because it is a AICE class and I need to pass it in order to get my AICE credit. I am concerned this is going to be a ongoing Situation. Our final project is due at the end of march so we need all the time we can get. Working on editing and putting the video together in class is very important. The reason I say this is because I get to here all my group members feed back. I like to hear everyone's individual input. Everyone's ideas put together can result in a great video. I hope we are able to get new computers so we can start working again.
It is frustrating not being able to edit today. Since we couldn't start editing our commercial we were told  to save our clips on an alternate source. We had to do this because the computers couldn't save our footage. We put the information on a USB drive. My group was thinking of putting and editing the information on a computer from home. Originally the computers were already slow but it got worse. As time went on some computers didn't even turn on. This leaves me with not much to write about. The blogs are a good way to summarize what we did for the day. Luckily my group is responsible so we never lost any footage.

Filming commercial

In class we starting filming our commercial. The first thing we had to do was get our camera and tripod. After we had all the materials we needed we got to work. I had to change into Nike since I would be one of the actors for our commercial. We had Dani be the director and film and Jorge also be an actor. Once I was dresses we walked to the track. We took many shots of us running, walking, and tiring out shoes. The more shots the better it will be when we are editing the commercial. It was very hot outside so we did not stay as long as we expected. Setting the camera up was rather easy because we were told how to do everything in class.
Some groups were having trouble so I helped them get started. We filmed from different angles such as high and low angles. Some of the shots also consisted of a two person shot and medium shot. The goal of the commercial is to make it interesting and keep the watchers intrigued. We used the track to the best of our ability by running up the bleachers, sprinting and jogging. I want to make sure our commercial is simple but unique because I know a lot of groups will also have the same idea as us. A Nike commercial was commonly picked so our goal is to make sure ours stands out. We only had our group members star in the commercial rather than asking other people to be in it. I finally realize that filming is hard because if you don’t get it right the first timeout have to keep filming over and over. That can be frustrating when things aren’t going the way you want to.
It was important we kept calm though when the filing wasn’t going the way we wanted because we understood getting frustrated would not help anything. Some difficulties was the there was people in the way. I would have preferred  to have no one in the background of our video. This caused us to take more shots because there was always people in the way when we were running. Another important detail we included was not just filming the actor we also filmed objects with the Nike logo. For example, Jorge was wearing a Nike backpack and we filmed it by zooming in on the logo and as he walked away it zoomed out. This adds contrast to the commercial. We definitely had bloopers that consisted of us running into people or laughing. I enjoyed the experience of filming and I learned a lot about what it takes to be a actor. When we finish editing the shots out commercial will be simple yet keeps ur attention the whole time.

Storyboarding

Today in class, we storyboarded our commercial. Our group is doing a Nike commercial, and it will be about a track race. Our first scene of our commercial is a tracking shot of the two racers walking toward the track. Our next scene is the racers lacing up there shoes. The angle and shot of this scene will be a close-ups shot and a high angle. For our third scene, it will be the racers lining up at the line.  On the fourth scene. It will be a long shot followed by a tracking shot because the racers will actually be running in this scene. I’m the fifth scene, the runner will be running through the line and it will be a long shot/ high angle. On the last scene of the commercial it will be a shot of the racers shaking hands. This will be recorded by a medium shot with a eye leveled angle.

Editing

Today in class we learned many things about editing. She started off by teaching us how the camera works. We learned how to turn it on and off by opening the flaps (there is no camera button). Also how to record by using the silver button with the red line. The tripod is used for the camera to rest on so it is not a hand held shot. Using the Tripod is easy but you should never carry around the tripod when camera is attached to it. I need to make sure the nob is tightened up on the camera when it is on the tripod if not it will look shaky. We need to remember that the camera takes a long time to charge but the battery life is really good so it will last a while. Filming many takes is very important because you want to have as much footage as possible. The raw footage will help later on while editing.
Raw footage is the original footage that was never touched. It is very important to input the footage to the desktop. We need to remember that who ever puts there footage on the desktop we can only use their computer every time to edit. Also on the camera we need to make sure the date and the time are set correctly because the footage is based off of times. Dumping means to take your footage from your camera or SD card and put it in the computer. When you are importing your footage you need to take it from the computer and not straight from the camera. If you take it straight from the camera you might loose everything and have no backups. That is why this step is very important and shouldn’t be missed. You need to make sure you give the computer time to load because if you try to rush it, it might crash and you will lose your work. Once you are logged in make sure your on the edit screen.
After that you need to click file, new movie and all the prior films will be cleared. Make sure the footage you want to use is clicked on. You should drag your footage into Av track 2 because that’s used for building your film. Av track 1 is for the title. Av track 3 is used for the music. We do not need to use titles for the commercial. But the titles will be needed on the final project. When filing you should make sure it’s silent if you want it to be silent because when editing if you take out the noise it will block the noise from every clip too not just one. When saving you need to click export then mpej 4. The camera use and editing we learned in class will help us further our process with the commercials and projects later on.

Planning

Today we were assigned to work with our groups and disuse how our commercial is going to go. Jorge, Dani, and I decided our initial plan is to film on the track because we are doing a Nike commercial. We are planning on wearing all Nike gear and video one or two of us running the track. We would race against each other and show off the brand. If the weather is bad the day we are supposed to film we will compromise and film on the stairs. instead of doing a track running theme commercial it would be more of a Nike fitness training video. This video will show how to get faster by us running up the stairs.Next class we are scheduled to do our story boards so we will have a specific plan and backup plan.

Props:
We are going to have Nike water bottles and bags. (not much is needed since we are just running)

Costumes:
We will all be dressed in Nike which includes shirts, shoes, socks, shorts and headbands.

Schedule:
10/11/19: Plan our commercial
10/15/19: Story board our commercial
10/22/19: Film commercial
10/24/19: Edit commercial

Locations:
Main location: schools track
Backup location: Schools main stairs

Backup plan:
Our backup plan for filming is to film the subject running the schools stairs as if they were training, the rpops, costumes, and schedule shouldnt change at all. The only difference would be the change in location.

Research Convections and codes

Today, we started discussing our groups and topics of our commercial. We are given a choice between different businesses or companies like Starbucks or Dunkin’ donuts, or a Fort Lauderdale High School commercial. There is also an option to do an anti-vaping campaign. With further discussion between Jorge, Dani and I, we have decided to do a Nike commercial. At first we debated between Nike and Dunkin’ donuts, but we figured if we would film at the track at school, Nike would be much easier. We agreed that Nike would be much easier, and we all have the most ideas for this topic. We have done our research and looked up multiple commercials that have previously been created by Nike. All of which contain ideas that would relate to us and be easy to make.

In the first Nike commercial that we collectively watched, it started with an ariel view of a soccer stadium. It shows who the main character of the commercial will be about, and where it takes place. Within the first 10 seconds, it shows the concepts of teamwork and fellowship. All of the character are in Nike apparel, in proper costume to fit the setting. As they are in a soccer stadium, they are in their uniforms which we are making sure to include in our commercials. Following, it is portraying the conflicts between the players within the game and action shots or videos of the actual event taking place. The end of the commercial is showing the audience that anything is possible, and that there is a deeper message within each video. The girl being constantly shown through the commercial ends up succeeding, and it is shown when she scores the final goal.

After watching these commercials we have many ideas as to what we can possibly create for this commercial. Our first idea was to film it outside of school where we can get an interesting location. However, after reading the rules and expectations, we are not allowed to film outside of our school. The place within our school that would make the most sense to film at would be our track, so we decided to have a running/track themed commercial, wearing all nike. Our commercial will show that Nike can assist in reaching our goals, and succeeding in physical activity, specifically running. We will include Nike shirts, shorts, shoes and socks. We are also aiming to include props that are also branded with Nike, such as water bottles.

Introductory

Hi my name is Julia. I am 16 and attend Fort Lauderdale High school. There are many things I enjoy to do in my free time such as working out and playing sports. Currently I am running cross country, playing soccer and track is later on in the school year. When I run I forget about all my problems and concentrate on my breathing and endurance. Yes, it is very painful and it never gets easier but the feeling you get after finishing a run is something no one can give you. Its a sense of relaxation. Running teaches me to never give up even when I think I cant do it anymore and to push harder. Setting goals for myself makes me have something to look forward to. Every cross country or track meet I set a goal to beat my past time which keeps me determined throughout the whole race. Running is all a mental sport you just have to convince yourself your not in pain and you have to continue pushing. No matter the pain I will always go to running to free my mind. I've met the most amazing people from running and it has made us so close. We all push each other to excel and do our very best. It doesn't matter if you are first or last in the race it just matters that you finished and gave it your all.
