Editing

Today in class we learned many things about editing. She started off by teaching us how the camera works. We learned how to turn it on and off by opening the flaps (there is no camera button). Also how to record by using the silver button with the red line. The tripod is used for the camera to rest on so it is not a hand held shot. Using the Tripod is easy but you should never carry around the tripod when camera is attached to it. I need to make sure the nob is tightened up on the camera when it is on the tripod if not it will look shaky. We need to remember that the camera takes a long time to charge but the battery life is really good so it will last a while. Filming many takes is very important because you want to have as much footage as possible. The raw footage will help later on while editing.
Raw footage is the original footage that was never touched. It is very important to input the footage to the desktop. We need to remember that who ever puts there footage on the desktop we can only use their computer every time to edit. Also on the camera we need to make sure the date and the time are set correctly because the footage is based off of times. Dumping means to take your footage from your camera or SD card and put it in the computer. When you are importing your footage you need to take it from the computer and not straight from the camera. If you take it straight from the camera you might loose everything and have no backups. That is why this step is very important and shouldn’t be missed. You need to make sure you give the computer time to load because if you try to rush it, it might crash and you will lose your work. Once you are logged in make sure your on the edit screen.
After that you need to click file, new movie and all the prior films will be cleared. Make sure the footage you want to use is clicked on. You should drag your footage into Av track 2 because that’s used for building your film. Av track 1 is for the title. Av track 3 is used for the music. We do not need to use titles for the commercial. But the titles will be needed on the final project. When filing you should make sure it’s silent if you want it to be silent because when editing if you take out the noise it will block the noise from every clip too not just one. When saving you need to click export then mpej 4. The camera use and editing we learned in class will help us further our process with the commercials and projects later on.
